Position of the Week #14

"All love is expansion, all selfishness is contraction.
Love is therefore the only law of life.
He who loves lives, he who is selfish is dying.
Therefore love for love's sake,
because it is law of life, just as you breathe to live.

- Swami Vivekananda

Gomukhasana (Cow Face Pose)

Great pose for warming arms, back and shoulders. You will also find that one side may be easier than the other.
You can either hold the posture while the breath is held or you can try holding the posture while breathing gently through the nostrils. If you choose to breath, then hold the posture for thirty seconds to a minute. Repeat the gomukha-asana two to three times on each side.
This is a wonderful chest and hip opener, and it includes one of yoga's most classic arm positions. To experience the full benefits of this challening arm position, it's important to focus on more than simply clasping hands behind the back. Gomukhasana can be thought of as a preparation for both headstand and shoulderstand, by developing the alignment necessary to support the body in each inversion.
