Nickelodeon is trying to brainwash your children in the morning, or a leftist primer

My Husband sent me this link this morning. Please watch this, in its entirety. It is imperative that you SEE what Nickelodeon is showing at 5:00am.

NICKELODEON IS BRAINWASHING YOUR CHILD

Linda Ellerbee is the host, that should be enough said.

Pay particular attention to the second and fourth stories.

This Nickelodeon "news program", is not a news program. It is a leftist primer on how to be a "left-wing radical REBEL".

I am not a blind follower of our Government, and I also think that Government should be watched by it's citizens. It is our civic duty.

However this program led by Ellerby, is anti-war, anti- GWOT, anti-military.

This "news program" is not about people changing the World around them.

Ms. Ellerby uses leftist propaganda buzz words like "taking on the establishment".

She shows a group of "tweenagers" walking around in orange jumpsuits, hooded and yelling from a bullhorn. "We are not ok, with people being tortured by American soldiers!" "Are cooperation's priority over human lives?"

There is also a call for the impeachment of the President in the second segment of the video, "democracy is at stake because of the President violating the Constitution".

The fourth segment of video shows another tweenager, who has put together a video of wounded Iraqi children, with the song Jesus Loves Me playing over it. This teenager blames America, the military, for what is happening in Iraq. This young girl says "she finds, videos and facts on the Internet" to show what is REALLY happening in Iraq. I am guessing she is getting these images from Al Jazeera.

Nickelodeon is the new training ground for leftist propaganda.

Amazing. You really must watch this video.

My guess is, you will no longer want your children watching Nickelodeon. I am also guessing Nickelodeon paying sponsers eg: of 2 I saw while watching this clip Nerf gun. Hey Nerf, Nickelodeon thinks guns are evil. Oh and The Little Pet Shop, which we all know Nickelodeon thinks is a sort of animal factory, (not caring of animal's needs, only out to make a buck out of mass breeding of cats and dogs, only to be euthanized later) might want to hear from you the consumer of children's toys.

You can drop a line to the folks at Nickelodeon here

I would love for you to write a note to Viacom HERE

And PLEASE contact Hasbro here, make sure they know what Nickelodeon really thinks of cooperation's and Nerf guns.

UPDATE: spoke with Hasbro, and they are shocked that this was children's programming. We will see what they do with the advertisements...

UPDATE: 11/01/07 Because of comments left, I did google the WCW, the organization featured on Nickelodeons "news program" Rebels with a cause, and I found this very disturbing WEBSITE! Go look.

UPDATE: 11/01/07 Waiting for a return call from Alison Dexter to Executive Vice President (EVP) of Production, responsible for all television production for Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Noggin, Nicktoons Network. I did leave a message and my phone #. I would encourage you to do the same. Her contact information is here 818-736-3000. No luck at this number.

Update: 11/02/07 yet another phone number for Nickelodeon:212 258 7500

My DH tried to post this in Tammi's comment section, and left it in the comments...a must read..

1) I will echo my wife - do not show images of dead and wounded children on a kids show at 05:20 central time. As a cultural norm shared by most nations - respect the dead and protect children when at all possible. Should Americans be isolated from these images - never. I will be the first to admit that our military is far from perfect, but I will bet my Harley that a majority of the images of dead/wounded children shown on the last segment were actually targets of terrorist VBIED's. Show these images constantly to an emotionally secure audience that is mature enough to ask the proper question. Show photos of some of the children in the mass graves found scattered around Iraq or some of the hauntingly still Kurdish babies that were targets of chemical weapons. War is very evil and should be stopped at all cost - but until our State Department can muster up enough employees with nuts to go to Iraq and provide the diplomatic attention that it deserves, we are going to rely on our servicemen/women. Second - The Nick News episode directly focused children toward a known communist organization "World can't wait". I don't care what your modern focus is on the war and national politics, I thought that we all figured out and agreed that communism was not an option about 50 years ago. While we are on the topic of images dead children, shall we go down the list of communist government historical actions around the world? Call me old fashioned, but communism is not a political option for our nation. Do I feel that Linda Ellerby should quit producing news programs for children - no. It is her right as an American to do so. She is an excellent producer and my heart goes out to her for being a single mother and a cancer survivor. Do I feel that Nick News should change their format - yes, if they want my family's viewing. Constructive and open political conversation is the mark of Freedom. I hope that Ms. Ellerby produces many more programs of this nature, and I hope that Americans continue to respond with their opinions. During this period, I challenge anyone to show me the benefits of promoting Communism to our children. God Bless America

THANK YOU for bringing this to our attention!

yes, thank you, AWTM (& the DH). I know that these children mean well, but the ideas and their conclusions come from somewhere:

we all agree that child labor is wrong (that's why it's illegal here) but when they say, "we're challenging corporate America" you just gotta wonder who their parents are working for?

and the kid who says he is "against torture by American troops". Who do you think told him that? Has anyone bothered to tell him (or Linda Ellerbee for that matter) that torture is already illegal? or that troops do not torture (or even interrogate) prisoners at Gitmo? and that most of the world can't agree on what constitutes "torture" (and that insurgents, AQ and the Taliban don't care anyway??) I didn't hear him say that he objects to torture and butchery by al Queda... sad. sad. sad.

Unbelievable! My son (whom I should mention just received an appointment to West Point and one to USAFA) just watched that little brain washing session and we couldn't believe what we heard coming out of that little punks pie hole. Where are this kids parents and why would Nickelodeon even air this piece?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

There will be no more Nick in our home until there is a full apology to our soldiers. And maybe not even then. We have been questioning their programming for a while now. Some of their concepts are fun, but for the most part their programming is crappy.

Great work, AWTM.

Hello -

I sent the following email to Hasbro:

Hello -

I watched a show that promoted children as left-wing propagandists. I was absolutely appalled. I am a consumer of your products and want to know if your company supports this programming. Please contact me with your position - my 5 children's Christmas presents depend on it.

The headline should really read:

"Army Wife/Toddler Mom Uses Nickelodeon as babysitter"

or

"Army Wife/Toddler Mom doesn know how to shut off TV".

Come on. There is other good Christian programming for children. Act like a parent and control what your kids watch.

Be a real parent and stop using TV as your own replacement.

AWTM - I missed the part about the AWTM household being Nickelodean consumers. Furthermore, I would recommend you rethink those frequent hiking trips, fishing trips and trips to the park with the kiddos. All that fresh air and reality is probably a bit much on the little ones, doncha think?

Anonymous said...

How about a sane comment for a change? Who said that their kids watched Nickolodeon? Try reading a post next time.

Fermina Daza said...

You can shut off your TV but the companies and corporations will not get the message unless you let them know of your decision. One letter is worth 1,000 families shutting off their television. So writing letters to let Nick know of your displeasure with their segment is a great idea.

I'll be posting this on the military spouse chat boards I'm on and encouraging them to write Nick as well.

I, too, am appalled at the decision to run a segment such as that at that time on that station. I am all for children becoming involved in causes that they feel passionate about but they need to do so in an educated (i.e. learn what the "other side's" arguments are) and intelligent manner. And there is a time and a place for things such as this and Nick in the morning ISN'T one of them.

I'm not one who typically does either of these two things:

1) follows links from political blogs to the contact page of one organization or another at the center of the "crisis" du jour.

2) grouses to media organizations about their "lack of ballance"; percieved or real, slight or eggregious.

The reasons for this are simple. If the "crisis" turns out to be mere empty alarmism, it's obviously not worth my time. And even if it turns out that the alarm has been raised in response to a real, percievable bias, what's a letter to the editor supposed to accomplish? It's their bias and their platform. Real action would consist of building and supporting alternatives, right?

However, Linda Ellerby's NickNews segment titled, "Rebels With a Cause" was astonishing. If it merely lacked ballance, that would be one thing. Here we have a peice of pedagogy in radical leftwing adgitation.

The worst of this was Ellerby's promotion of a group called "the World Can't Wait" (WCW). WCW is a Maoist group created by the Revolutionary Workers Party (RCP). The RCP is not pascifist, it is dedicated to "overthrow and thoroughly smash and dismantle the bourgeois state. And that requires war." Nor is it kind in its militancy. The RCP is the sister organization to the infamous Weather Underground Terrorist group of the 70's, both having broken with the "moderate" practices of the Progressive Labor Party. The RCP avowedly supports The Shining Path and the Nepalese Maoist militias, has collaborated with the former and RCP members have been implicated in the activities of the German Red Army Faction.

These facts hardly comprise a full accounting of WCW's ideological corruptness. For instance, I would imagine that even most who would consider themselves radical would be disgusted to learn that the RCP's Draft Programme identifies homosexuality as a sickness engendered by "late-capitalism", prescribing that gays and lesbians be "re-educated" after the revolution.

The promotion of this group to nine, ten, elleven, twelve and thirteen year-olds as something to get involved in could hardly be more disturbing than if the peice featured instead David Duke's "anti-war" group, "No War For Israel". One could speculate that a version of "Rebels With a Cause" which turned around that axis would have Linda Ellerby seeking out the youngest members of White Supremacist groups to expound on otherwise legitimate issues such as immigration reform. Perhaps it would begin with a segment about "young Rebels" petitioning their school board to boycott foods bearing the symbol of the so-called "Kosher Tax". Ellerby would present this a model activity for tweens without even the consideration towards aknowleging the terrorism suppporting such activism.

Worst of all, Ellerby would present this to your child audience in the tone a caring adult uses to teach a child that stovetops are hot, which would be, as in the case of the version you did choose to broadcast, utterly revolting.

I blocked Nickelodeon a while back because of their left-wing nonsense.

The problem is it isn't nonsense to the Modern Liberals behind it. People have been dismissing this stuff but we can't any more.

What we are dealing with are something called "Modern Liberals." These are basically Socialists with the 60's added in. Many regular liberals of the past were patriots and believed in many of the same things as conservatives of today. FDR, JFK, Hubert Humphrey must be spinning in their graves (literally) over these Modern Liberals that have taken over Western Europe and the Democratic Party.
If you want to see what a Modern Liberal is, watch this video by Evan Sayet. Evan used to write for Bill Maher and he is a genius:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaE98w1KZ-c

You'll need some quiet time and make sure you watch the Q&A at the end. Evan's theory could be called the Unified Theory of Modern Liberals - it's that good. What you'll see is that their philosophy drives everything that a Modern Liberal does. Please watch the whole thing!

This is precisely why my wife (29) and I (33) are not having children despite being financially and professionally successful.

I feel bad about that sometimes because I hurts knowing that when we're gone we're leaving the world in the hands of a bunch of misguided, mislead people who do not understand the lessons of history or the values of morality or the honor of sacrafice.

It's been downhill since the time of my grandparents and there is no upside in sight. We will fall just like the Roman Empire did because of the additive effect of shows like this on our youth.

Honestly, I don't know why you're so surprised and WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO WATCH SOMETHING CREATED BY A FEMINIST?

Feminism = Socialism.

"Move on: Adventures in the Real World - by Linda Ellerbee

About this title: And So It Goes, Ellerbee's hilariously outspoken inside account of TV news, demonstrated her enormous appeal. In this smashing sequel, the popular ex-NBC news anchor broadens her scope--shedding light on herself as mother, daughter, wife, FEMINIST, and all-around woman of her times, and one of the most unforgettable voices of our age."

So Ken, rather than having your own children and imparting on them your values, morals and ideals, you would rather leave the world in the hands of a bunch of misguided, mislead people?

And you guys call MY party the party of defeat?

Please Ken, don't have children because the last thing we need is more selfish, self centered, surrender monkeys like you running around in the world.

And Ken, I love this...

We will fall just like the Roman Empire did because of the additive effect of shows like this on our youth.

The fall of Rome has been attributed to a number of things including an infiltration of foreign forces into the Roman military, to the fact that they effectively had no system of budgeting and managing their "treasury" and pure laziness, lethargy and apathy of the Roman citizens.

So to elaborate;

The Roman forces were over extended and began to accept foreign militias that were uneducated and ultimately loyal to profit, not the empire.

(see US military lowers standards for recruits and Private security contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan ie. Blackwater)

They were financially broke. They didn't budget for the military operations spread throughout Europe and because they were essentially a plundering society, not a manufacturing society, they didn't produce anything of value to be sold as a source of income in a growing world market.

(see supplemental Iraq and Afghanistan war spending, US trade deficit, US 9 trillion dollar debt)

The citizens of Roman empire resorted to brutality, sex and violence as a source of entertainment and they had become lazy and dependent on the Military to provide wealth and income and on the servant class to provide their comforts. They also sat back and watched confused and apathetic as their society deteriorated around them.

(see Military style simulation games, television programming involving full contact fighting and Ken Tompkins and his wife are not having children despite being financially and professionally successful.

I feel great that my wife and I had kids and I know that they can and probably will change the world and were doing everything we can to make sure they are not left in a world run by a bunch of misguided, misled people who don't understand the lessons of history. People like you Ken.

If you take a look at the link to the WCW page and read who is on the advisory board, you can find Lynne Stewart - she's listed as an attorney...but it doesn't note that she was disbarred for passing messages from her client Sheikh Omar ABdel-Rahman (the blind sheikh) to people in his terrorist group.

The inclusion of Lynne Stewart as part of the advisory board says it all.

Viacom,
Please confirm or deny the apperance of Linda Ellerbe on Nickelodeon addressing the United States of America, its military, its war on terror, and its president.

I am trying to track down the video source and/or transcripts of such appearance... but would appreciate help from you as well.

If her so-called news program was in fact anything resembling an anti-military, anti-American, anti-G.W. Bush, anti-War on Terror, anti-Republican, anti-conservative, or other similar propoganda you can be certain that my wife, my extended family, my friends, and I will not be pleased.

I have a son who often watches Nickelodeon at day care and sometimes at home... and we will be very careful to let him watch anything else on Nickelodeon, play with anything with the Nickelodeon brand, and will take either a similarly cautious if not a similar track regarding other programming from Viacom.

As a collector of film and television this might make a few holes in my collection, but I will easily learn to live with it. In the past ten to fifteen years I've been throwing down plenty of money for satellite television and DVDs (as much as five hundred dollars a month)... so shifting this to another companies' products will not take too much effort.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Although it certainly may be problematic to be having kids, who in all likelihood don't understand exactly what they're saying, politicized on television, I disagree with the sentiment of this post. That particular outrage could be understandable. However, the bulk of the criticism here seems to be about the content of their message. So I feel like I should clarify.

A lot of the things this program says are true. Americans are engaging in torture (for those who disagree, I invite you to try some of the tactics used on prisoners). And the laws recently put in place basically say the president can do whatever he wants.

Furthermore, in the eyes of many, he is violating the constitution. Many of the current administrations actions are done under the auspices of some of the most radical theories on executive power ever put forth in the history of this nation. If you think the president should have these powers, that's fine... but at least advocate modification of the constitution instead of pretending that Bush is acting in accordance with it.

Most of all, to people who read this blog, who comment on it... the types of people who impugn the patriotism of people on the political 'left' (which these days seems to mean people who question the current administration)... what exactly do you consider to be the values of America? Because last time I checked, it was things like the bill of rights. Right to habeas corpus, no cruel and unusual punishment, no warrantless search and seizure. Things that the current administration, and the politics of his party are endorsing without a second thought.

I wish people would remember more often what this country is about and not what some people have made it, a caricature, a comic-book version of itself where people on blogs like this pay lip service to patriotism but are woefully bereft of any meaningful thought on the matter.

Anonymous said...

On the above comment, I had a typo. Obviously I meant that the Administration is trampling the Bill of Rights, not championing it.

Truth? Nope. Justice? A little short on that.

And there's no way in hell you'll convince me it's the American Way.

doug says: "Good for them for walking their talk..."

They are NOT walking their walk, they are being spoon fed, and indoctrinated by the left... In fact, today it hit the news how college kids in Delaware are force fed leftist opinions and graded on whether they agree with those opinions or not via their RA's and that info is dispersed throughout the entire campus. Example: only white people can be racist. What is with the left going after everybody's kids. Oh, that's why they say it (indoctrination) takes a village.

Anonymous said...

They are NOT walking their walk, they are being spoon fed, and indoctrinated by the left.

These kids look like they're somewhere around 15 - 18 years old. So you're saying kids this age aren't capable of knowing what's right and acting on their beliefs, morals and values?

Nobody is forcing these kids to go out and do what they're doing. They're acting on their own and that's a hell of a lot more than I can say for most kids their age.

And where are the conservative kids? What are they out doing? If they've got something to say, this piece just demonstrated that EVERY kid, even conservative kids can make a difference. Kids do have a voice and what they have to say is important.

What's shocking and amazing to me is that your reaction to this is to attempt to shut, or more appropriately shout down the messenger.

This entire piece is about practicing first amendment rights. It is about civic duty, responsibility and freedom of expression and the sad irony is that it is being attacked on a website run by a woman who's husband is in the National Guard allegedly to protect those very freedoms.

Assumedly, not allegedly. Poor choice of words.

As for showing dead and injured Iraqi children, I would prefer that they showed that type of material during prime time when the entire family is sitting down to watch another gripping episode of Americas Next Top Model, Survivor or American Idol - you know, "reality Television".

Instead, the average American is taking the position of our own President's mom who said, "Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many... ...it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?

Out of curiosity, have you seen the documentary film Jesus Camp?

Hello,

Injustice isn't those brave children who against all odds are speaking out for those who cannot. Injustice isn't Nickelodeon's broadcasting "Rebels With A Cause." Injustice isn't Hasbro or any other advertiser of Nickelodeon.

Injustice is those of you who are trying to stop these brave and yes patriotic folks from saying what needs to be said. Injustice is the senseless torture and murder of living beings for which the "Rebel" children, Nickelodeon, and their brave sponsors spoke out against on this broadcast.

History will most certainly not look favorably upon those of you who have tried to end this most important form of the freedom of speech. History will see you for what you are. The status quo gatekeepers who try their best to keep whatever social ill is going on at the time alive. Shame on all of you.

If you cant take the truth that the corporate puppet media filters from your eyes just cram under a blanlet and hide. These kids have more courage than you! During the vietnam war we had reporting on the 5-6PM news that ahowed us the atricities of war - this is why the people went into the streets to end it. Now when the few bits of truth about what's happening leaks out shows like this you call it Brainwashing? I call it wake up from your Dreamworld! These kids are not a clueless as you think. They see where their world is heading with the corporate puppet warmonger Neocons leading us into sinful torture, bankruptcy, corruption, spying and endless wars! They will take on this challenge because they care about their WORLD not just themselves!

Unknown said...

I completely disagree with your assesment of the Nickelodeon program. I think it is wonderful that these kids are using their constitutional rights as United States citizens to stand up for what they believe. I find it utterly incomprehensible that you would say that they are brainwashed. Anyone with any intelligence whatsoever knows that these kids are not only brave, but absolutely correct in their views.

Anonymous said...

I notice that your complaint about the program is NOT that Ellerbe and the kids she profiles in the video are not telling the truth. The thing is, those kids ARE telling the truth about the use of torture by US personnel and the government's legalization of torture. I guess that's ok with you, because it seems to me that if you were AGAINST torture you would be GLAD anytime anyone told the truth about it...and not complain about "brainwashing" when someone is so obviously standing on the side of truth.

Furthermore I notice that you're quite content to spread a few lies of your own about the group The World Can't Wait and the involvement of the Revolutionary Commmunist Party in that group. Connecting either group with terrorist activities like the Weather Underground and the Red Army Faction is hysterical nonsense with absolutely no basis in fact. I challenge you to provide any evidence to the contrary.

So why is it, Army Wife, that you are so offended by the truth on one hand, and so prone to promoting lies on the other?

Anonymous said...

I am wondering where some commenters got their idea about WorldCantWait.org and it's mission somehow being "communist"? Did you even read your own link to their mission statement? If it's communist to advocate for the impeachment/conviction/removal of a president, who were all those "commies" after Bill Clinton? We should applaud the initiative shown by these kids to be activists for their views, whether we agree with them or not!

Unknown said...

So teaching our youth to be strong minded independent citizens is now un-American? Why is it that people who want to change the status-quo: child slave labor, illegal torture, corporatee imperialism, animal torture and illegal imperial war are targets of people that have no comprehension of the larger issues in the would. I would much rather live in the world these kids are creating than the world you claim to worship!

I don't see anything wrong with young adults speaking their mind and trying to change the world. They have that right. The show is on at 5 o'clock in the morning, if you don't want your little people watching it, there are other channels to watch. I think it is great that these kids are not afraid to speak their minds, to bring things out in the open. My son is taught to speak his mind but I also teach him respect. As far as our military goes, he holds them in the highest regard and understands that they are just doing their jobs but that does not mean he has to agree with what is going on. We have family in the military and all have been to Iraq, some two or three times. We understand and teach our children that they are doing the job asked of them. Kids are our future and if they need to start as young adults to change what we can't or won't, then more power to them. My son can watch Nick News anytime he wants, everyone deserves the right to say what is on their minds.

Dear All - as a former Marine wife & mother of a Marine I remember how I felt during the Vietnam war. I had to, I thought. Since then I have realized that only a free & honest press will save us from the nationalistic, my country right or wrong. Honesty. All I'm asking for is honesty from the government. The Bush Admin has betrayed the trust of the military getting us into this mess, & the blindfolded followers of his lies, deceits, & crimes against the Constitution will have to deal with how complicit they are at some point. Overwhelming proof of crimes against humanity, high crimes & misdeameanors in office. Patriots are not stupid or blind followers of a monarching-acting government in an alleged democracy - the USA. Laws & rules should prevail. Thank you, Linda Ellerbee for your usual clear sightedness & informed journalism.

Hm, it appears, as always, that Nickolodean is REALLY just a kids show, and you're all reading way into it. But... what else is new?

Cheers!

We haven't hidden the truth from kids in our community. Some church groups brought a little Iraqi girl here to have her amputated legs replaced with prostheses. Her family is so grateful. By the way, there is film footage showing the AMERICAN planes dropping the bombs that killed her siblings and mutilated her legs. By the way, thanks for having Linda Ellerbee's Nickelodeon video sabotaged on
the web. The last thing we want in all-Christian America is for the truth to get out about how really heathen we really are.

Goodness, isn't it amazing (though not surprising or atypical) to see all the "free speech"; 1st amendment, exercising our rights crowd come to the fore when a completely one-sided portrayal of children engaged in these activities is broadcast on a network aimed at kids?

Everyone "deserves the right to say what's on their minds" and yet, here comes the usual crowd, lambasting AWTM for doing just that. Typical.

If these commenters genuinely believe this 'news' show should be directed at children and it somehow is informative, why not call for it to involve children who are not all marching to the same drummer? It's a bit disturbing to think it's okay with many here that images of dead children are more palatable than using that air time to show children engaged in activities like collecting care package items for the troops or doing good works in their communities.

My guess is because this is the same mentality that breeds the discontent for children who wish to wear a flag t-shirt to school or say "God" every now and again without following it with 'damn.'

It is laughable that someone can seriously comment that people should be able to exercise their constutional rights and express themselves however they want in the context of telling a writer she may not do so. It's even funnier that they don't realize how idiotic that position truly is. "Sure, express yourself...unless I don't agree with you, then shut up."

The truth hurts, eh?

Melinda,

We are against what AWTM is saying because she is falsely accusing these kids of being "anti-military" (her words, not mine) because they are against torture.

I will adamantly state that torture is not an American value, and it is not a value that is to be practiced by our military. A small minority of people in the military do practice torture, and I feel that is immoral, and also gives the United States a horrible image, despite the fact that most Americans are against torture.

Our president considers the Constitution to be a "god-damned piece of paper." He has sworn to uphold the Constitution, but instead chooses to ignore it. He should be impeached, and there should be shows showing "tweens" that it is okay to protest and hold our government accountable. If the people of this nation weren't so apathetic, this administration would have been 86ed a long time ago. Maybe our future generations won't be a herd of sheeple.
