Redistribution of wealth, socialism, anthropomorphism, egalitarianism, and the other isms.

Why does this election have everyone sooo freaking exhausted?

It goes beyond the commmon complaints I hear. Dirty elections, mud slinging etc. Frankly, the media is creating all of that, as entertainment to schlep its Viagra, Volkswagons, and whatever else folks think are hot commodities right now.

I am exhausted, because I am having to defend my ethics, philosophy, and morals every single moment. I feel as though I am under attack.

Most of us are watching the news right now, as much as we can stand it.

It seems as though there is a divide in this great country of ours...

a divide over

Right to Life
Right to Liberty
Right to Property
Right to the Pursuit of Happiness
Right to Free Speech
Right to Self Defense

Redistribution of Wealth
I
,

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Redistribution of wealth refers to the transfer of wealth from some individuals to others.
Contents
[hide]

* 1 Methods of transferring wealth
o 1.1 Voluntary transfer of wealth
o 1.2 Forced transfer of wealth

Must I really feel the need to get on my rooftop and shout to all of those in ear shot, why redistribution of wealth is a bad idea? Redistribution of wealth is an attack on those that are financially successful. A method to subsidize wealth to the unsuccessful.

People should BE ABLE to CHOOSE to be CHARITABLE to others, this should not be done by the government.

Which brings me to

Egalitarianism

From Merriam Webster
egalitarianism
One entry found.

Main Entry:
egal·i·tar·i·an·ism Listen to the pronunciation of egalitarianism
Pronunciation:
\-ē-ə-ˌni-zəm\
Function:
noun
Date:
1905

1 : a belief in human equality especially with respect to social, political, and economic rights and privileges 2 : a social philosophy advocating the removal of inequalities among people

Egalitarianism is impossible to achieve, without destruction. It is not concerned with the well being of any one person or persons. It is also a value based belief, and not a moral one. So who is to determine what has value? It is a resentment based belief.

OK next...

Altruism

from Merriam Webster

Main Entry:
al·tru·ism Listen to the pronunciation of altruism
Pronunciation:
\ˈal-trü-ˌi-zəm\
Etymology:
French altruisme, from autrui other people, from Old French, oblique case form of autre other, from Latin alter
Date:
1853

1 : unselfish regard for or devotion to the welfare of others 2 : behavior by an animal that is not beneficial to or may be harmful to itself but that benefits others of its species

Personally I prefer Ayn Rand

It is altruism that has corrupted and perverted human benevolence by regarding the giver as an object of immolation, and the receiver as a helplessly miserable object of pity who holds a mortgage on the lives of others - a doctrine which is extremely offensive to both parties, leaving men no choice but the roles of sacrificial victim or moral cannibal...
Ayn Rand, The Objectivist, June 1966

And now the wonderful "Is McCain calling Obama a socialist?"

OK....lets check.

Socialism

Merriam Webster

Main Entry:
so·cial·ism Listen to the pronunciation of socialism
Pronunciation:
\ˈsō-shə-ˌli-zəm\
Function:
noun
Date:
1837

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

I do not want to live in a society, where I am denied property, or forced to give property away by my government. I should not be fearful, or ashamed of success. Once you take a persons drive to succeed away, you are left with empty shells. I do not want to be enslaved to a "collective ideal".

Oh gads, I just had this conversation with my daughter, for Pete's sake. She is a teacher in Atlanta. When I told her she was marching goose-step with the NEA, she had no idea what I was talking about.
She obviously didn't read the copy of Atlas Shrugged that I sent her.

I could not agree with you more. Thank you for posting this, it is comforting because I've been feeling very politically isolated lately.

Also, I ADORE Ayn Rand. I've read all of her novels and always recommend them to others.

Hang in there!

What is happening in our country right now is frightening. I have never felt such a divide as there is right now.

The divide is frightening.

People just wanting to be taken care of is frightening. Our family would supposedly be one of those not affected by Obama's tax plan, and yet I don't want anything to do with it. I don't want other people's money.

I just want to work for mine and not be held back by ridiculous rules.

You know what scares me? Harrison Bergeron. Because I see parallels.

Yuck. I had to shut the door to my office this morning to avoid listening to all the Obama-bots out there. It really disgusts me that people could not only be so stupid, but be so IGNORANT of their stupidity. Sorry for yelling on your blog. :)

Me again. I really feel sooo much better after reading all these comments. I'm in England surrounded by VERY liberal Americans and British people who have some strange fascination with American politics. They all pick fights with me b/c of politics. The interesting thing is that I have never, ever initiated a conversation with them about politics so they certainly have no idea where I lie on the political specturm. They just assume I'm a conservation b/c of my military association. It's really, really, really strange.

I just nod and think about something else...like puppies...and Ayn Rand...or all the laundry I have to do.

Ok, I'm finished ranting on your blog now. :-)

the McCain campaign is asking people to make their own videos about why they're like "Joe the Plumber"... and send them to them...
http://link.johnmccain.com/?95-6513-1035103-65213

I sent the email on to one of my sisters whose hubby is a doc (believe it or not, another sister also married to a doc is voting for Obama... but that's because she hates anything republican/bush... I digress).

I told my younger sister:
you and Dan should do a video about paying & borrowing ($385,000!!!) your way through college and medical school, studying hard and scraping by, working long hours and Dan making life & death decisions every day... for which he is paid a reasonable salary. that as a physician he does not, contrary to public opinion, make millions of dollars... you can tell them how you raised your children, paid back your loans (with interest rates of 12, 15 & 17% compliments of Jimmy Carter!!), bought a home but never borrowed beyond what you could pay back, saved for your children's college, and you're now saving for your retirement because you don't have a sweet government pension... and you just want to ask Barrack Obama, "Since when did it become acceptable in America to punish hard working people by taking their money and giving it to others because you think that's "fairer"? and that You can't imagine how he justifies giving tax "refunds" to people who don't even pay taxes! You see this as taking your "A" grades in school and giving them to people who got lower grades to make it "fairer". Perhaps Senator Obama would have been 'ok' with giving away his college grades... and he might be ok with giving away 60% (39% inc. tax + 17% soc. sec. tax +4-8% soc. sec. tax "surcharge" for the "rich"... not counting any STATE inc. tax., medicare tax, or unemployment tax) of HIS money, but you're not.

grrrr.

We're about to get a Liberal President with a Liberal Congress with a Liberal Media. Who's doing the checks and balances?

Who is going to really report when the people who Obama owes, come to collect?

I am going to be horribly mean here and say, I am going to be smug when America sees what they've done and I will not hold back my "I told you so's".

Excellent post...

Wow, it looks like none of you actually read Obama's plan, only the talking points on Fox News. When did he actually talk about wealth redistribution?

I found the last election rather exhausting as well. And the aftermath....with so many whining about moving to Canada or France. I wonder if Obama wins this election whether people will want to move out of this country? where to? Or will he just be shot? Curious. How bad is it, anyway? Is this our country, love it or leave it? How patriotic are we? Will we work together? Or suffer a collective melt down? Suck it up, America. Still the greatest country on earth.

Who is Miriam Webster?

David; he ACTUALLY TALKED about wealth distribution to Joe the Plumber. Remember him? Or is the liberal media completely ignoring Obama's reply to Joe's question and instead focusing on tearing the poor guy to shreds and getting him fired. Oh yeah, they are. Ugh.

Aprillini...only problem is, there's nowhere else to move to. Nowhere to "go John Galt", even if you wanted to. *Sigh* I can only hope that it won't be as bad as I fear it will be.

Obama's first, second, and third priority is to get elected. If that means pandering to large numbers of unemployed, under employed, those on welfare, illegal aliens, and malcontents, he'll be happy to throw them a few crumbs as a way to get their votes. He will also turn democracy and capitalism on it's head, and villainize the affluent and successful in our society, in order to rally the masses behind him. With evangelical zeal Obama will convince his followers to replace reason with hope and belief ... to blindly follow him ... never challenge him ... and embrace his words as gospel. In the real, and unforgiving world of economics however, when you immediately gratify everyone by feasting on the goose that lays the golden eggs, the economy looses it's ability to continue generating growth and wealth. Obama is promising everyone a piece of the pie, whether they helped bake it, or not ... but, only in a socialistic, or communist state do the non-contributors demand to share equally in the property that belongs to others. Immediate gratification is like a drug to the malcontents, but in the big picture, every farmer knows that you never eat your seed crop. If Obama gets elected, America will turn into a third world country, with massive government welfare programs, unable to generate jobs for it's citizens, and unable to compete in the global markets. Keep America safe, free and strong ... elect McCain/Palin on November 4th.
