RE-Re tired

A retiring Army colonel opens up a ration of pound cake he brought back from Vietnam and has a taste. Henry A. Moak, Jr. pronounces the 40-year-old treat "good," adding that it's "even a little moist."

Sounds like the Christmas cake that has been making the rounds for the past 40 years also. Add some rum and it will go down smooth. Stay close to the restroom though! LOL

C-ration sliced peaches and pound cake was the hit of the case of C-rations. A grunt that got those could trade for almost anything.

I don't know how it is today since it's been over forty years since I was a 19 year old in a Rifle Company but the Services didn't have near enough sweets for young men who were still mostly in their late teens and very early 20s. We always figured it was because the big brass and politicians were all old.
