how many coats does one person need?

I currently have about 10 various jackets and coats...it seems like too many until the weather over the past few days arrives. I have needed, 3 in the last 24 hours...

Last night we had a sudden burst of sleet and snow. This morning, was a chilly 20 something, this afternoon, a glorious almost 40....

Bwah.

In sad news I am retiring my favorite long black top wool coat. The lining is ripping out, and if you look close, it is worn. I recall buying it at TJ MAXX in 1989 I purchased it for $99. That is right I currently own clothing that is older than people I work with...

It seems to me, now would be a great time to replace the long wool black coat, with another one. Coats are on sale, and a wool coat will last forever and ever, or well almossst.

I also think I can probably get away with spending about the same amount on a new one.

I thought about getting it repaired, but wowzers...the coast is about 1/2 the cost of a new one...

I would love to get a houndstooth one, you know how I love the houndstooth, but I think a straight black one is probably the smartest thing to do...

I own 20-30 jackets and coats (and that is 1/2 what I had 5 years ago before the move!) I might add that the DH owns 30-40 coats/jackets (he just can't bear to part with them!) we refer to the coat closet as the "10 degree closet" 'cause we have coats for 70 degrees, 60, 50, 40...

I have a lovely mid-weight black wool coat with a touch of lamb at the cuff and collar -- had it for 7 or 8 years now -- looks like new and perfect with jeans or silk... You can never go wrong with a good wool coat. So you figure if you paid $100 for yours 20 years ago -- that was $5 a year... and if you wore it 50 days a winter -- that was 10 cents and plenty warm -- well worth the money!! So buy quality!!

AWTM,

Your $99 coat is as old as my suit, which I bought for my high school graduation and still wear about once a year.

I don't own a single coat, not even after I moved from HI to NJ four years ago. Living in Hawaii is expensive; one saves on clothing, but makes up for it in other areas.

I found your blog randomly looking for fellow military spouses with blogs. Very cute! I don't like coats at all. I don't know why...I'm very into fashion, but think coats are just to get you from the yucky cold to somewhere nice and warm. I wear my classic black Northface jacket pretty much everywhere.
